Question
Are Residential Gateways compatible with Internet appliances?
Answer

Residential Gateways and Internet Appliances

It depends on the type of network connection for the appliance and the gateway. An appliance that requires an Ethernet-type connection (RJ-45) can be easily connected to an Ethernet port on a Residential Gateway. An Internet appliance that has a Home Phoneline Networking connection can be plugged into any phone outlet in the house if the Residential Gateway has a telephone connection (RJ-11) that supports the HPNA networking. HPNA networking technology isn't available in current Residential Gateways. The last Residential Gateway to include HPNA support is the 1800HG.
